Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) has announce the appointment of two dedicated community members, Gillian Sweet and Debra Davidson, as volunteer coordinators. The hospital eagerly anticipates the return of volunteers, and these experienced women are set to spearhead the volunteer program, fostering a spirit of community engagement and support.

Gillian Sweet, a Carleton Place resident of nine years, expressed her enthusiasm for the role, citing the town’s vibrant community atmosphere as her inspiration. With a substantial background in the medical field, Gillian recognized CPDMH as an ideal platform to contribute positively to the community.

Debra Davidson, a former CPDMH volunteer with 15 years of experience, emphasized the rewarding nature of volunteering.

“Being a volunteer coordinator allows me to give back to the community. The hospital relies on volunteers, and I believe I can facilitate that process,” said Davidson. Her motivation stems from the desire to alleviate the strain on healthcare professionals caused by frequent interruptions, enhancing overall patient care.

Sweet and Davidson are actively recruiting volunteers to assist at the information desk, an important station where patients and visitors receive guidance.

Davidson highlighted the urgency, stating:

“In just a morning shift, nurses were interrupted over 100 times by patients seeking information. This strains our healthcare providers and prolongs wait times. Volunteers can significantly ease this burden.”

Prospective volunteers are encouraged to commit to four-hour morning or afternoon shifts, Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. A mandatory police screening check ensures a secure environment for all involved.

In a generous gesture, the Civitan Club has pledged to manage the information desk every Thursday.

Individuals interested in becoming a CPDMH volunteer or seeking additional information are invited to contact for detailed application instructions.
