UPDATE: Smiths Falls police seize shotgun, arrest local man in William Street East incident

The Smiths Falls Police Service has provided an update regarding an incident that happened on the morning of Wednesday, June 26 on William Street East.

Police say that shortly after 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence. Police say that when officers were attempting to take a male into custody, he “refused to exit the residence and indicated he had a firearm.”

Police say there was no one else inside the residence.

“Police cornered off a large area to ensure there was no risk to the public and contacted Eastern Region OPP Emergency Response Unit for assistance,” the release continues. Smiths Falls police and OPP Eastern Region crisis negotiators “worked collaboratively to resolve this peacefully.”

In the end, the man exited the residence without incident and was taken into custody. Police say shotgun was also seized from the residence.

No injuries were sustained in this matter.

A 32 year old Smiths Falls resident is facing charges relating to domestic related mischief as well as several firearms offences and will be at a bail hearing Wednesday afternoon.
