UPDATE: Man arrested on warrants in Smiths Falls Lavinia Street incident

The Smiths Falls Police service has provided an update on an incident that led to a heavy police presence in the town on the afternoon of Thursday, March 21.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Smiths Falls police received a report from a woman who said she was assaulted inside a residence on Lavinia Street by another female, police say in a Facebook post.

Further information provided to police indicated that a male wanted by the OPP on numerous charges might also be inside, and in possession of a handgun.

OPP assisted Smiths Falls police officers with their Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Units. Under an abundance of caution for public safety, police secured the area.

Once the residence was cleared, police learned the wanted man was at another location at Parkland Court.

Police obtained a warrant to gain entry, and located the 34-year-old wanted male in the residence. No gun was located.

Police have this male in custody on the strength of their warrants, SFPS reports.
