UPDATE: Belleville police identify murder suspect, victim in homicide investigation

The Belleville Police Service has provided an update to a murder investigation launched following the death of a woman on Tuesday, May 21.

The accused man has been identified as 30-year-old Tyler Donnelly of Belleville; he has now been charged with second degree murder. This charge has not been proven in court.

 “The accused was arrested on May 21 for first degree murder based on the initial investigation and observations by uniform patrol,” Sgt. Jeff Geen explained to Quinteist.  “As a result of the continued investigation, a charge of second degree was proceeded with against the accused.  There is ONLY the second degree murder charge before the court.”

Donnelly was transported to KGH for medical treatment, and has since been remanded into custody.

The female victim has been identified as 26-year-old Shannan Leigh Hickey of Belleville.

“The accused and victim were in a previous intimate partner relationship, however remained living in the same residence,” Geen said. ” The victim’s family has been spoken to and have given the BPS permission to release her name.” 

The investigation began when police responded to a residence on Hastings Park Drive on May 21, after receiving a report of an alleged homicide at the residence. Both parties were located inside the residence.

The Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Division with assistance from the Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate the incident.
