Suspect facing assault, threats and other charges after incident at Carleton Place gas station

Lanark County OPP report that an arrest has been made after reports of an armed man in Carleton Place. 

A media release explains that officers responded to a gas station on Highway 7, shortly after 6 p.m. on May 30.

“It was reported that a male in a vehicle was armed with a handgun,” police state.

Police say a pellet gun, which looked like a real handgun, was located at the scene.

In addition, an individual at the scene indicated they had been threatened.

Police say they determined the vehicle in question had also been stolen.

Curtis Griffith, age 36, of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Using an imitation firearm while committing an offence
  • Take vehicle without consent
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to comply with a release order – three counts

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 31, 2024.
