One person is dead following two-vehicle collision on Highway 37, just outside of Belleville, on Wednesday, June 12.

Central Hastings OPP responded to the crash at the intersection of Boundary and Shannonville Roads shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, police explain in a June 13 media release.

A pick-up truck travelling westbound on Shannonville Road collided with an SUV heading south on Highway 37, police say.

As a result of the collision, the pick-up entered a water-filled ditch and rolled over. “Several civilians tried to remove the driver from the vehicle but were unable to do so,” police say.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Stone Mills Township, was later pronounced deceased at the scene. There was no one else in that vehicle.

The driver of the SUV was transported to a Kingston trauma centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation continues, with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and other members of the Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team.
