St. Lawrence Seaway reassures public of its ‘safe, secure and efficient’ infrastructure after Baltimore bridge collapse

In light of the alarming collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, after it was struck by a cargo ship in the early hours of Tuesday, March 26, the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) has issued a statement ensuring the safety of its infrastructure.

“Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the tragic Baltimore bridge collision involving a container ship,” the statement reads.

It goes on to say that the SLSMC wants to reassure the public and its stakeholders of its top class bridge design and robust physical protections that safeguard all structures along the marine corridor.

“With 24/7 operational vigilance over marine and vehicular traffic, the SLSMC ensures safe, secure, and efficient passages for the public, commuters, and marine traffic,” the the statement says.

The SLSMC says safety is at the core of their organization’s values.

“The Seaway and our best-in-class risk management practices guide our operations.”
