Smiths Falls resident charged after report of suspect ‘popping tires’ at local business

The report of someone “popping tires” on several vehicles at a business on Mazie Street West in Smiths Falls led to charges of 13 counts of mischief and trespassing for a local resident.

In a media release, Lanark OPP explain that their officers responded to the business at around 12:30 a.m. on June 12.

“The individual had fled the scene, but a suspect was taken into custody a short time later by Smiths Falls Police,” the release states.

Lanark OPP then attended the Smiths Falls Police Service and arrested the individual there. It’s a complex geography, Media Relations Officer Bill Dickson told Lanarkist when asked why OPP made the arrest as opposed to Smiths Falls police. “That area is actually OPP jurisdiction as the section of Mazie Street West is outside the town limits.”

Blake Horne, 26, has been charged with:

  • Mischief under $5,000 – 13 counts
  • Trespassing at night

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released with conditions following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 24, 2024.

The investigation is continuing.
