Seven charged in drug bust at Belleville residence

Seven individuals are facing charges related to drug possession and trafficking following a search warrant executed at a residence in Belleville’s east end on Thursday.

The operation, led by members of the Project Renewal drug enforcement team, in conjunction with the Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit and K9, took place at a residence on Herchimer Avenue in the mid-morning hours.

Police explain that during the operation, authorities seized a quantity of illicit substances and cash, including 87.8 grams of cocaine, 10.6 grams of methamphetamine, seven unidentified pills and $500 in Canadian currency.

Among those arrested, 40-year-old Steven Johnson of Belleville faces charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of property obtained by crime, and breach of probation. Similarly, 52-year-old Troy Hosking faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, along with possession of property obtained by crime.

Additionally, a 35-year-old woman from Belleville, whose identity was not disclosed, was charged with similar offenses as Johnson and Hosking, along with a breach of undertaking related to possession of controlled substances under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).

Further individuals charged in connection with the incident include 56-year-old Lori Betts, 60-year-old Allen Tompkins, 56-year-old Manon Benard, and Starsky Hughey, all facing charges consistent with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as possession of property obtained by crime.

Charges have not been proven in court.

The 35-year-old woman from Belleville remains in custody pending a show cause hearing, while the other accused individuals were released on undertaking with a scheduled court appearance set for March 18, 2024.
