‘Screaming and swinging’: Tree-branch wielding man arrested in Belleville

A Quinte West man was arrested after allegedly tormenting passersby with a large tree branch in downtown Belleville.

A media release explains that on Saturday, May 11, shortly after 5 p.m. police were called to the downtown area after a man was reportedly screaming and swinging a large tree branch at strangers walking by his location.

Officers arrived and found the 30-year-old Quinte West man agitated and aggressive and still holding onto branch. Police did not name the suspect.

With the tree limb removed from his possession by officers, he was arrested on charges of causing a disturbance and breach of probation.

The male was held for a bail hearing.
