‘Rebuild and strengthen their legacy’: New TVO Crossroads episode to focus on Tyendinaga

Quinte area residents might want to check out the new episode of TVO’s Crossroads: Beyond Boom and Bust airing tomorrow night (March 26).

The episode focuses on Tyendinaga as the main First Nation Territory of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, and the fight its people have had to endure to preserve their culture after centuries of oppression at the hands of the church and government.

Tyendinaga Mohawk Council chief Don Maracle is featured in the episode, speaking about the history and developments in the area. Viewers will also hear from Callie Hill, Executive Director, Tsi Tyónnheht Onkwawén:na Language and Cultural Centre, about the language and culture revitalization efforts; a number of local artists, knowledge keepers and more are also featured.

“It is clear the determination of the community is stronger than ever as they rebuild and strengthen their legacy,” says a media release from TVO.
