Two charged with theft from Quinte West business

Police in Quinte West say they have charged two individuals following an alleged theft from a local business.

In a media release, OPP say that on Jan. 18, at approximately 4 p.m., Quinte West OPP responded to a shoplifting in progress at a business on Dundas Street East in Trenton. The accused reportedly fled when confronted by staff. Officers obtained descriptions of the two males involved, as well as the vehicle they left in. Both suspects and vehicle were later located, resulting in arrests.

Bogdan Dobranici, 39 years old, with no fixed address, and Mihaiflorin Mielu, 42 years old, with no fixed address, have been charged with the following offences:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of an identity document – four counts
  • Possession of a credit card – four counts

Bogdan Dobranici has also been charged with the following offence:

  • Dangerous operation

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on January 23, 2024.
