Early this morning, a significant traffic disruption ensued on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road at Highway 401 after an incident occurred involving a tractor-trailer. Belleville police and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
Belleville police say in a media release that incident unfolded when a tractor trailer, exiting a parking lot on the south side of Highway 401 just north of Bell Boulevard, collided with several bundles of telecommunication wires mounted on telephone poles. The impact was forceful enough to severely damage multiple poles and wires, scattering them across the highway.
Fortunately, the damage caused was limited to telecommunication lines, and maintenance crews on site confirmed that no live hydro wires were involved. As a result, hydroelectricity supply remained unaffected by the incident.
Due to the extensive damage and debris strewn across the road, access to Highway 401 at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road was promptly shut down. Additionally, Belleville police blocked Wallbridge-Loyalist Road from the intersection of Bell Boulevard to the intersection of Bellevue Drive on the north side of Highway 401.
This road closure is anticipated to last for a significant portion of the day, and authorities dvise motorists to seek alternative travel routes.
There were no reported injuries resulting from the incident. Belleville police are actively investigating the matter, although no charges have been filed at this time. Authorities continue to work to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow in the affected area.
Information will be updated as it is made available.
