There’s lots to do in the Quinte area this weekend. From Valentine’s to card games, there’s sure to be something you’ll love. Here are six fun things to check out.
1) Paint your own pottery
What would be a better gift for a loved one on Valentine’s Day than a hand-painted ceramic piece? Head on over to the Renew and Wellness Centre in Foxboro to take part in a Paint your own Pottery event with The Kiln. From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., you can choose a ceramic piece, design and then paint it to take home for a loved one, or for yourself! Prices range from $15 to $35 depending on what you choose to paint.
2) Colours of Africa arts workshop
Embrace the many colours of Africa in your own way. Belleville-based artist Emebet Belete will be at the Belleville Public Library this Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., teaching a mixed media art workshop on canvas. Participants will be guided in discovering the techniques she uses in her own art, regardless of experience level or age.
3) Scalliwag Pokémon League Day event
Got a kid who loves Pokémon? Scalliwags Toys on Front Street in Belleville is inviting young Pokémon Trainers to their Scalliwag League activity day from 1 to 3 p.m. Pokémon lovers ages 4-8 can join the Pichu division, and kids 9-13 can join the Eevee team. Not only will they be able to learn to officially play the Pokémon card game, but participants can also trade cards with other collectors, do Pokémon-themed crafts, colouring sheets and other Pokémon-related activities. Scalliwags encourages participants to come with cards if they have them and, if not, they can buy some instead of paying the $5 entrance fee.
4) Railbed Roaster pop-up coffee shop
Local coffee roaster Andrew Shepherd is offering his home-brew coffee experience at Meyer’s Brewery this weekend, uniting locally-crafted coffee and beer just in time for Valentine’s Day. Lovers of finely-honed tastes can make their way to the brewery on Dundas Street in Belleville on Sunday afternoon to meet with Shepherd and enjoy a pour-over or aeropress coffee roasted and prepared by the aficionado himself.
5) Valentine’s Market at Bayview Mall
Are you still looking for that perfect gift for your special someone? Local business Weird and Wild Witch is hosting a Valentine’s Market at Bayview Mall this Saturday, bringing together over 60 vendors and small businesses for one day of shopping. Join them between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to see what gift is waiting for you.
6) Dungeons and Dragons character creation night night
Dungeons and Dragons is making a roaring comeback, and Trenton is in on the game. New and old players alike can meet up at the Rollin’ Oats Cafe on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. to work with an experienced dungeon master to build the character of their dreams. Each participant must register on the cafe’s website and will be given a drink and a set of dice to get them started on their next great adventure.
