Report of ‘suspicious individual’ in Picton parking lot leads to assault, mischief charges for Prince Edward County resident

One person is facing charges related to an alleged assault in Picton.

Police say that on the evening of Sept. 26, at approximately 7 p.m., officers responded to a report concerning a suspicious individual in a parking lot near George Wright Boulevard. Additional information indicated that an individual had been subjected to an assault.

With the support of the East Region Canine Unit, officers swiftly arrived at the scene and apprehended the individual in question.

Police say that during the apprehension process, the individual exhibited hostile behaviour toward the officers. Thankfully, none of the officers sustained any injuries. However, the individual also caused damage to the detention facility, according to police.

Jesse Hanna, aged 34 and a resident of Prince Edward County, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault
  • Assault of a peace officer
  • Mischief – destruction or damage to property (two counts)

Charges have not been proven in court.l

The individual has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 15, 2023.
