Docs by the Bay Physician Recruitment and Retention has announced the signing of medical service agreements with Dr. Maka Shoniwa, marking her commitment to practice family medicine in both the City of Quinte West and the Municipality of Brighton starting in late 2024.
Originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Dr. Shoniwa brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to her new role. Currently completing her final year of residency in Syracuse, NY, she holds a Medical Degree from St. George’s University in Grenada W.I., complemented by a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Chemistry with a Minor in Classical Languages from Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, FL. Additionally, she holds a Masters of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.
“Joining Docs by the Bay is an incredible opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of Quinte West and Brighton residents,” Dr. Shoniwa said. “I am eager to work alongside this exceptional team and serve the community with personalized and comprehensive family medicine.”
Beyond her professional endeavours, Dr. Shoniwa enjoys yoga, running, tennis and hiking. Her decision to settle in Quinte West was driven by the desire for a town to call home, coupled with a welcoming clinic environment. She noted the appeal of Presqu’ile Provincial Park as an added bonus.
Dr. Shoniwa’s recruitment stands as the 17th successful addition to Docs by the Bay since its establishment in late 2017. Paula Mason, manager of recruitment and retention for Docs by the Bay, extended gratitude to Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Evans and Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Kaladeen for their support during the recruitment process.
Phil Wild, Committee Chair, expressed excitement about welcoming Dr. Shoniwa.
