A 14-year-old girl involved in a hit-and-run collision on Nov. 17 has succumbed to her injuries.

“Seryn was a beautiful, funny, and incredibly smart 14-year-old girl who had made so many memories & had so many more to make,” reads a post from Zoe-Anne Rogers, organizer of the Go Fund Me page set up to assist the family. “She was loved by so many, especially her parents, Lisa and Wayne.”

As of Friday evening, the fundraiser had raised over $21,000 from an initial goal of $10,000, as the community rallied to support the community.

On Nov. 17, at around 7:40 p.m., emergency services rushed to the intersection of 2nd Dug Hill Road and Appledene Drive following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian and hastily departing the area. Seryn was flown by helicopter to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto to receive medical treatment after suffering a number of serious injuries.

Following an investigation on Nov. 18, police made an arrest in connection to the case. Dean Potter, a 51-year-old resident of Quinte West, faces a charge of “failure to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.” This charge has not been proven in court.
