Adorning his own body with tattoos as a hobby during the pandemic, coupled with his love of art, has pointed Chaz Lucas in a new direction.

The Quinte West resident is now the owner of a mobile tattoo business, called Ink Cisive, which he launched in the latter half of 2023.

“I started growing more of a love for it,” said Lucas about his study and exploration of tattoo art during COVID-19.

“I wanted to make it more of a career.”

The young artist began sourcing local tattoo shops in Belleville and Quinte West and reaching out for an opportunity to be taken on as an apprentice. “Nobody could really take me in because they had apprentices,” he said. Then he found a shop called Skulls and Roses, who welcomed him aboard, and “that’s where I originally started.”

Alas, Skulls and Roses ended up moving to Brighton and Lucas found himself at an intersection. Lucas and his wife, Kyleen Badgley, “were sitting here wondering if I should go to another shop or how it was going to go, with renting a chair and how clients were going,” he said. Lucas moved on for a short time to an Oshawa tattoo business, commuting back and forth from Trenton, and without a steady client base because he didn’t have established customers in the city.

His path forward started changing again when he was taken on as a tattoo artist in Belleville in May 2023, and the shop’s owner asked Lucas to register a business for tax purposes.

“Once we were a registered business, I actually thought of the idea (of going mobile),” said Badgley, who helps Lucas with public relations.

“When I found out his requirements were the same as a personal care service…like people who come and do your nails at your house…(I thought) why can’t we do that?”

So, they did – after ensuring they had all the health and safety requirements for personal care services covered.

“Considered a junior artist, with just over four years of experience, Chaz recently became the first tattoo artist in the area to be approved by the health unit to offer mobile tattoo services in clients’ homes,” the City of Quinte West noted in a congratulatory announcement.

“Since becoming mobile, he has identified a market gap in services that meet the accessibility needs of clients and will continue to offer mobile appointments for this reason in the future.”

Ink Cisive is fully insured to provide on-location tattoos and set up at events in the area.

Lucas can be reached by calling 613-438-1775, by searching for Ink Cisive on Facebook, and/or by finding the business on

Instagram at @inkcisive_tattoos.

In another new development, in late December 2023, Lucas announced in addition to offering mobile services, he will also now offer in-shop tattooing after joining the services offered at the O2 Oxygen Bar and Beauty Lounge at 86 Dundas St. W. in Trenton.
