Elderly Belleville man arrested on warrants after police called to neighbour dispute

On Wednesday, Oct. 4, Belleville Police were dispatched to a reported dispute between neighbours in the city’s west end, which led to the arrest on an 83-year-old man on warrants.

Police state that at around 3:30 p.m., officers on patrol arrived at the scene, where they discovered one of the people involved was wanted by officers on outstanding warrants issued by Belleville Police for allegedly obstructing police; he was also wanted in connection to several Highway Traffic Act offences from an incident in August.

Police spoke with the male, who they say was intoxicated and causing issues by spraying neighbours passing by his house with his garden hose.

He was placed under arrest by officers on the strength of the warrants and taken to the police station, where he was held until sober.

Charged was Benedict Murphy, 83, of Belleville.

Charges have not been proven in court.

He was released with an October 19 court date.
