The Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a local resident in connection with the 2021 death of a 16-year-old male.
In a media release, police say the teen was pronounced deceased in hospital on March 30, 2021 prompting an investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
The Central Hastings OPP Crime Unit has now charged Sarah Voss, age 37, under the Criminal Code with:
- Fail to provide the necessities of life-child
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
Charges have not been proven in court.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 6, 2023.
OPP say that as the matter is now before the courts, they cannot elaborate on evidence which led to the arrest. Police also say the identity of the deceased is not being released or confirmed.
