A 26-year-old Belleville resident faced arrest and subsequent detention for a bail hearing following a domestic incident that unfolded in the city’s north end on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Shortly after 5 p.m., members of the Belleville Police Service responded to a distress call reporting a dispute in the vicinity of Highway 37 and Roslin Road. During transit to the location, officers received information that the male involved, subject to multiple conditions including a conditional sentence order, had been spotted departing the scene on foot while reportedly carrying a firearm.
A search for the individual led to his discovery inside a nearby residence, where he voluntarily surrendered to authorities without resistance.
Fortunately, the female participant in the altercation did not suffer any severe injuries, police say.
The identity of the 26-year-old male remains undisclosed to safeguard the anonymity of the victim. However, the individual faces a number of charges, including assault with a weapon, breach of probation, failure to comply with a firearm prohibition order and violation of the conditional sentencing order.
He was detained pending a bail hearing scheduled for today to address the gravity of the charges leveled against him.
