Belleville police looking for suspect after woman punched in downtown core

The Belleville Police Service responded to a distress call on Thursday, Nov. 30 in the downtown core following reports of an assault.

Police state that a male suspect allegedly punched a female before fleeing the scene.

Upon arrival, law enforcement located the victim, who sustained minor injuries from the altercation.

Police say a local establishment provided surveillance footage capturing the assault, aiding the investigation. The video evidence confirmed the assault and identified the suspect, who is known to the police. Despite an extensive search of the vicinity, authorities were unable to locate the individual.

In light of these events, police are actively pursuing a warrant for the arrest of the male suspect, charging him with one count of assault.

Police did not provide a photo or description of the suspect.
