Police detained a 36-year-old individual on Wednesday after he unlawfully entered a locked building in Belleville’s east end.
According to the Belleville Police Service, the incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m., prompting officers to respond to the specified address following a reported break-in. Witnesses observed a man using a crowbar to gain entry into a locked apartment building.
Upon reaching the scene, officers promptly located and apprehended the suspect without encountering resistance.
Identified as Bruce Cooney, a person with no fixed address, he faces a single charge under the Criminal Code for forcible entry. This charge has not been proven in court.
Cooney has been released under specific conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on January 18, 2024, to address the allegations against him.
