With more than 300 tiles individually painted by Quinte West community members, the City of Quinte West has unveiled a new mural.
The City of Quinte West recently marked the conclusion of its 25th anniversary year with the presentation of a community mural in the lobby of city hall in Trenton. The eight-foot ‘Quinte West Mosaic’ mural features the tiles painted during the city’s multiculturalism day celebrations on June 27.
Quinte West said the artwork on the tiles celebrates some of the imagery, history, and stories of the growing Quinte West community. “The mural is a great representation of collaboration and the arts in Quinte West,” the city noted.
The Quinte West-inspired mosaic mural design was created and assembled by Canada Mosaic Murals using three-inch tiles painted by participants from local schools, art clubs, service clubs and community organizations. The mural is permanently installed on the main floor of the Creswell Drive municipal building. It is available for viewing during city hall building hours Monday through Saturday.
“I am thrilled to see this beautiful piece of public art created by local community members on display for residents and visitors to enjoy at Quinte West city hall,” said Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison.
“The Quinte West mosaic mural unites our community in all the beautiful ways that make Quinte West a great place to live, work and play.”
The process of bringing the Quinte West mosaic to life “was truly inspiring,” said Jaclyn Grimmon, director of community services and strategic partnerships.
“Witnessing individuals from all backgrounds and ages contribute their creativity to this project was exciting to watch and be a part of and a great initiative to celebrate the city’s 25th anniversary,” Grimmon said.
2023 marks the 25th anniversary of amalgamation in the City of Quinte West. As part of the public celebrations this year, the city featured a number of free community activities including Quinte West Fest at Riverfest, a summer movies in the park series in all four wards, a glow party, a community corn roast and a citizenship ceremony.
