A 27-year-old man from Campbellford is facing an assault charge after reportedly becoming agressive with first responders who came to his aid during a collision over the weekend.

Police say in a media release that officers with the Quinte West Detachment of the OPP, as well as Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and Quinte West Firefighters, responded to River Drive, near Fish and Game Club Road, shortly after noon on Saturday, June 22.

“A vehicle had left the road and rolled over,” police say, and “both occupants had managed to get out of the vehicle.”

Police state that a male passenger from the vehicle became aggressive with first responders when they arrived on scene. “During efforts to take the individual into custody, one OPP member suffered an injury which required hospital treatment.”

The male has been charged with:

  • Assaulting a peace officer
  • Resisting a peace officer

Police did not name the accused. Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 11.

The driver of the vehicle was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with making an unsafe move – lane or shoulder.
