Quinte West man accused of making numerous illegitimate 911 calls

Police in Quinte West have charged a local man after numerous unfounded calls were made over the course of five months.

In a media release, police say that on March 19, 2024, Quinte West OPP, with the assistance of the Quinte West Crime Unit, arrested a man following an extensive investigation into unsubstantiated calls to 911.

The investigation started in late October 2023 and continued into March 2024.

Police say Quinte West Fire Services; Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services; and Quinte West OPP all responded to numerous emergency calls that were deemed not legitimate. 

Donald Hawkins, 24 years old, from Quinte West, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Public Mischief – 14 counts
  • Mischief – seven counts

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville and has since been released.
