The County of Prince Edward is seeking written expressions of interest (EOI) from private sector and not-for-profit entities for a partnership to redevelop the former Queen Elizabeth School property.

The municipality acquired the 1.8-hectare property at 35 Barker Street in Picton from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, which declared the school surplus in 2018. Initially, the municipality planned to use a government grant to purchase and renovate the property, but the project did not receive the funding, which means an external investment is required to turn this vision into a reality.

The redevelopment objectives are:

  • Provide the maximum number of affordable housing units, as defined by the County’s Municipal Housing Project Facilities By-Law.
  • Offer up to 37,000 square feet of rental space for community service agencies at reasonable rates with extended leases.
  • Allow the municipality to recoup its $1.5 million investment by the end of 2024.
  • Move forward with the redevelopment as quickly as possible.

Interested parties are invited to submit their EOI by Friday, July 19 at 4:30 p.m. Further details are available in the EOI document.

The County Council will review the submissions during a special Committee of the Whole meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
