In a swift response to a gas odour detected within the premises, students at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) were evacuated to the nearby Picton Arena earlier today (Thursday, Nov. 2).

Local authorities arrived at the scene, with the fire department taking charge to assess and address the situation. Currently, there have been no reported injuries, and everyone is accounted for.

Under the supervision of school staff, students made their way to the designated evacuation point at the Picton Arena. The Hasting. issued an advisory, urging parents and caregivers to refrain from heading to the arena until after 1 pm. This delay allows sufficient time for all students to be safely transported and accounted for, and for staff to complete the necessary attendance procedures.
