The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (PSFDH) is currently grappling with an alarming influx of patients seeking care for respiratory illnesses, leading to the declaration of an “Internal Code Orange” status.

A press release indicates that the hospital’s emergency departments are under tremendous pressure due to the substantial volume of admissions and capacity constraints.

Amid this healthcare crisis, every patient arriving at the PSFDH Emergency Department receives a thorough assessment by the hospital’s dedicated healthcare team. Priority is given to those with the most severe conditions, ensuring they receive prompt attention. As a consequence, some patients may experience extended wait times.

In cases of immediate medical emergencies, individuals are strongly urged to dial 911 without delay. Paramedics are on standby to provide essential assistance and transport patients to the nearest emergency department if necessary.

For non-urgent health matters, the hospital advises residents to consider alternative healthcare options such as reaching out to their primary care provider, consulting with a pharmacist, or exploring available virtual care services. Health Connect Ontario (Telehealth) can also be reached at 811, or for TTY users, the toll-free number is 1-866-797-0007.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support and patience,” reads a press release from the hospital.
