On Monday, June 3, Prince Edward County OPP issued a media release on a shooting incident that happened in late May, indicating that it has no relation to a second firearms incident that took place a couple of weeks later.

The release recalls that officers responded to a home on Union Street on May 20, shortly after 2 a.m. One person was transported to hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit conducted an extensive search of the area but found no suspects.

Police believe this was “not a random incident,” and that there was no risk to the general public.

The release says more information is expected to be released soon on the May shooting.

“Investigators also want to make it clear that this incident has no connection to a June 2, 2024 firearm incident on Paul Street in Picton which involved a replica handgun,” police emphasize.

An individual was arrested and charged in that case.

Anyone with information, or who has potentially relevant doorbell or dashcam video, should call Prince Edward OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
