Marmora and Lake resident charged with drug trafficking at RIDE check

A RIDE program stop led to a drug trafficking charge for a Marmora and Lake resident over the Victoria Day long weekend.

The local OPP detachment reports that officers were conducting the RIDE shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the intersection of Centre Line Road and Beaver Creek Road.

“An officer detected a strong smell of cannabis when one vehicle was stopped, and the driver showed a bag of cannabis to the officer,” the release states.

As a result, a was conducted of both the vehicle and the individual. Police say officers located approximately 90 grams of suspected cocaine and multiple cell phones.

Duncan McDonald, age 41, of Marmora and Lake Township has been charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on June 10 to answer for the trafficking charge.
