In the early hours of March 23, 2024, a routine traffic stop by an officer from the Brockville Police Service escalated into a pursuit in the vicinity of Ormond Street and Central Avenue, police report in a media release.

The officer had noted erratic driving behaviour, prompting the attempted stop. However, the driver of the vehicle reportedly opted not to comply and fled the scene.

Police say the pursuit led them onto Bramshot Avenue, where the situation took a dangerous turn. The vehicle lost control, colliding with the curb and causing significant damage to its front wheel.

Following the incident, the driver, identified as a 35-year-old male, was apprehended. Investigation revealed that the man was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, which was confirmed by subsequent testing at the Brockville police department.

The driver faces multiple charges, including fleeing from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, as well as operating a vehicle while impaired and with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit of 80mg. Charges have not been proven in court.

The man’s driver’s license has been suspended, and the vehicle has been impounded pending a bail hearing.
