Man charged with second degree murder in Belleville stabbing

The Belleville Police Service has made an arrest in connection with a fatal stabbing that took place over the weekend. The suspect was charged with second degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

On Jan. 9, members of the Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Division, with assistance from the Belleville Police Emergency Response Unit, K9 and Project Renewal members made an arrest relating to the homicide which occurred at 320 N.

Police say in a Jan. 10 media release that Hayden Moreton, 24, was arrested at his residence in Peterborough without incident.

Moreton has been charged with one count of second degree murder and two counts of attempted murder. Charges have not been proven in court.

Moreton was held for a bail hearing on Jan. 10 in a Belleville court.
