Leeds OPP investigating death of cyclist along County Road 42

OPP in Leeds County are investigating the death of an elderly cyclist who appears to have passed away after falling off their bicycle on the shoulder of County Road 42. 

Police state in a media release that shortly after 10 a.m. on June 8, officers were called to the area of County Road 42 and Settlement Road after several concerned citizens discovered the 71-year-old victim and came to their aid. Police say the victim was from Ottawa.

“Leeds OPP have ruled out a collision,” the media release reads. “It was determined the person was projected over the front of their bicycle after a foreign object entered the front wheel and brought the bicycle to an abrupt stop.”

The Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service have since taken charge of the investigation.

The roadway had closed during the investigation, but has since re-opened.
