In the early hours of Saturday, Feb. 17, Brockville police were called to the scene of a large disturbance outside of Broad Street Billiards, where about 15-20 people were participating in a fight.

Officer Darryl Boyd of the Brockville Police Service told Brockvilleist that “there was a disturbance involving a larger group of individuals participating in a fight.”

Boyd said it was instigated by two males who were originally involved in a verbal altercation. The incident took place at about 12:30 a.m.

“The altercation started out in a verbal dispute that escalated, where one male began striking the other male multiple times. Then, others in the area became involved and the disturbance became physical for many.”

In a public comment on Facebook, local resident Nicole Howard explained that she lives right beside the bar. It “started as a fight with two guys in-front of pool hall, escalated to like 20 of them in the middle of the street. Guys were coming in from all angles in the fight and as the fight finally started dispersing is when the police decided to show up.”

By then, she said, “most of the people that were involved in the fight already were headed to another bar.”

Howard declined to comment further.

Boyd said any injuries received are non-life threatening,

The incident, he explained, is still under investigation, and police have already identified many involved.

Once the investigation is complete, applicable charges will be laid.

If anyone has information regarding the incident, they are asked to contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127.
