The Town of Perth is aiming to educate residents about appropriate waste disposal practices.
In partnership with its curbside collection contractor, the is set to launch a waste management initiative starting Thursday, Nov. 16. The goal is to guide residents and tackle a concerning trend where inappropriate volumes and types of materials are being placed at the curb.
The Perth waste program encompasses the curbside collection of bagged household waste and green bins weighing less than 50 lb, in addition to recycling collection. To address instances that fall outside the program’s guidelines, refusal tags may be issued under the following circumstances:
- Untagged garbage bags
- Bins and bags exceeding 50 lb
- Improperly separated recyclables
- Placing yard waste (with exceptions for leaf and Christmas trees on designated pick-up weeks)
- Disposal of hazardous waste
“Residents can bring oversized and overweight items, including construction materials, directly to the Perth Landfill during operating hours,” states Grant Machan, director of environmental services. “Yard waste can also be brought to the Landfill year-round.”
Residents are reminded that annual garbage tags can be obtained at Town Hall during regular operating hours, and additional tags are available for purchase if needed. For those with mobility issues, the Town offers the option to have tags sent directly by contacting 613-267-3311 ext. 0 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
