Smiths Falls police have located and arrested a suspect in a pursuit that concluded with a crash in the early morning hours of Oct. 29.
The driver, Dong Han Huang, 22, from North York, now faces a slew of charges, including Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Mischief under $5,000 (two counts), Mischief over $5,000, Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.
Charges have not been proven in court.
According to authorities, the pursuit ended when Huang crashed into a yard in the Prince Edward County area. Smiths Falls Police allege that after the crash, Huang attempted to evade capture by switching to another set of stolen license plates. It was later discovered that the vehicle itself had been reported stolen.
A Smiths Falls police dispatcher helped make the connection between the crash and the earlier pursuit, ultimately leading to Huang’s arrest. Currently, the accused is in custody under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Provincial Police.
