It has been a year since the mysterious disappearance of Smiths Falls resident Lawrence Bertrim, who hasn’t been seen since Sept. 30, 2022.
Bertrim, who would now be 43 years old, was last seen at approximately 11 p.m. on that date in downtown Smiths Falls, leaving his family and community in a state of deep concern.
The Smiths Falls Police Service (SFPS) initiated a missing person investigation immediately after Bertrim’s disappearance, and in December 2022, sought assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Working in close collaboration, the SFPS and OPP have been dedicated to uncovering the truth behind Bertrim’s disappearance. The investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), has been ongoing since January this year.
Lawrence Bertrim is described as 5’6″ (171 cms) with a medium build, weighing 149 lbs (67.5 kg). He has brown hair and blue eyes. A photo of Bertrim has been attached for reference.
Despite the passage of time, investigators have not relented in their efforts. While they have received numerous second-hand accounts, they are now urging anyone with direct knowledge of Bertrim’s activities on the night he disappeared or in the days leading up to Sept. 30, 2022, to come forward. It is believed that someone within the community possesses crucial information that could lead to finding Bertrim.
“Investigators and family members are concerned for Lawrence’s well-being and believe someone in the community has information regarding his whereabouts,” police state in a press release.
