Smiths Falls police have charged a 25-year-old resident in connection to shotguns and a cross bow reportedly being stolen from a motor vehicle.
Police say that on Oct. 3, they received information regarding the theft of these weapons from a vehicle. After investigating, they were able to identify the suspect quickly through information received.
A search warrant was executed at a residence on Bourke Street, and Brook Hood, 25, was arrested and charged with the following:
Trespass by night; two counts of theft under $5,000; two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm; two counts of failing to comply with a probation order; two counts of knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm; and two counts of property obtained by crime.
Charges have not been proven in court.
Hood was held in custody pending a bail hearing and the guns are in police custody.
“Police are reminding the public as hunting season is approaching, to ensure you have proper trigger locks and have your firearms locked and secured in your homes and vehicles,” Smiths Falls police state in a press release.
