The Smiths Falls Police Department is seeking information regarding an incident involving an erratic driver that occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 28 on Lombard Street. Officers are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the individual responsible.
According to authorities, an officer on duty attempted to stop the vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behaviour. Upon the officer’s exit from the cruiser to engage with the driver, the vehicle allegedly reversed dangerously toward the officer. Fortunately, the officer managed to evade the vehicle, which subsequently collided with the police cruiser. Following the collision, a pursuit was initiated; however, it was later terminated in Rideau Lakes township due to safety concerns.
The suspect, last spotted in Kitley Township, is believed to be operating a blue Kia Sportage with what is believed to be a stolen British Columbia license plate with the number SD888P. The driver is described as a male of Asian descent, possessing dark shoulder-length hair, and was last seen wearing an orange shirt.
Authorities say they also noted that the suspect was observed in the Walmart parking lot prior to the incident, where they were seen consuming alcohol with others inside their respective vehicles.
