Smiths Falls police have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a student during a fight that occurred near a local high school.
Police state in a media release that officers were called to an area off high school property in regards to a fight that had occurred.
Police conducted an investigation, which they allege revealed that a father assaulted a student who attempted to intervene in another altercation that the accused’s son was involved in. A youth with their guardian later declined to lay charges of assault.
Regardless, police arrested the 48-year-old father and his son for causing a disturbance by fighting. They will appear in court at a later date.
The father will not be named due to the son being a minor.
Police say they have obtained video of the “disturbing altercation.”
“The safety of our students at all our local schools is paramount and there is and will continue to be zero tolerance for any of this type of behaviour, especially from a parent,” reads a press release from the police.
