If you’re a fan of literature or simply eager to learn more about the life of an author, the Carleton Place Gallery (CP Gallery) is hosting a fundraising event that may be for you.
The Grand Author Takeover will feature a panel of 10 unique authors from all over North America, congregating for a night of readings and dialogue.
Lanarkist spoke with Pamela Stewart, gallerist at the CP Galley, to learn more about the special evening. She stated, “The Carleton Place Gallery, with the tagline ‘An Art Gallery for the Community’ is really driven to bring the community into their gallery and studio space to get creative. We not only host workshops and lessons, but special events related to all art forms including music and, in this case, fiction writing.”
The gallery opened just a few months ago, and their team is excited to introduce this and other future events to the Carleton Place community. In regardsto what they have in store for the ‘Grand Author Takeover’, Stewart explained, “it will be a hybrid event with readings and open discussion/Q&A with the authors. Gallerist, Metis artist and visual storyteller Colleen Gray will guide the evening’s readings and discussion, and yes, we will have a selection of refreshments available prior to the event.”
Lanarkist also spoke with the author and event organizer Sarren Scribner to provide more insight.
”We have debut to seasoned authors on the panel in addition to editors and graphic designers,” Scribner shared. “We felt this would give the audience a varied perspective of the writing process and also how publishing has evolved. Not to mention, we chose authors from a wide variety of genres so that there would be something for everyone.”
In lieu of a physical ticket, guests are asked to make a donation to First Book Canada.
“First Book Canada is a wonderful organization whose aim is to transform the lives of children in need by making brand-new, high-quality books and resources affordable and available to the educators and kids who need them most,” Scribner explained.
“As writers and avid readers, we are strong advocates for literacy,” she continued. “Considering that most of us are also parents, we appreciate the void that this charity fills. We would love for this to be an annual event. Carleton Place and The Grand Hotel have been very welcoming and supportive.”
This intimate experience will be taking place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
