Steve Tate, a Smiths Falls man who was found deceased adjacent to Highway 15 on Nov. 8, is being remembered by friends and family as “a gentle giant who loved his friends fiercely” in an online fundraiser started by the community to support his mother in the wake of his death. “He had a laugh that was contagious and a smile that would light up any room,” reads the Go-Fund-Me page.
Tate, 34, had been missing since Nov. 4.
The fundraiser is organized by Ashley Bell-DeLong and has a current target of $5,000, which will help “to cover the unexpected costs of his funeral” and “relieve some of the burden from his Mom, Donna.” As of Tuesday evening, $1,400 had been raised.
Bell-DeLong states that “Steve’s passing has been a shock to all who loved him. It has left all of us speechless and with so many unanswered questions.”
The community hopes to “give Steve the memorial he deserves, to honour his memory and say our last goodbyes.”
