Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 33 Service Battalion are set to undertake convoy operations and driver training exercises on roads and highways in the Ottawa, Brockville and North Grenville areas during the upcoming weekend of Oct. 28-29.

In a public service announcement, the military advised that members of the public should be aware of the potential for increased military traffic and the presence of military vehicles on various roads, including Highways 416, 417 and 401, among others. The exercise, known as OWL TALONS, will adhere to pre-planned routes connecting Ottawa and Mallorytown, passing through Kemptville and Brockville.

Throughout the exercise, participating personnel will make planned, brief stops and longer halts, allowing for rest, refueling, and scheduled maintenance. It is important to note that the participating soldiers will not be armed and will not carry any ammunition during these operations.

The primary objective of this training initiative is to bolster year-round preparations for emergencies within Canadian communities. This preparedness extends to various scenarios, including natural disasters such as flooding and wildfires. By responding to requests for assistance and collaborating with community members and other first responders, the Canadian Army Reserve aims to strengthen their ability to serve effectively in times of crisis.

The participating Canadian Army Reserve vehicle operators undergo regular training sessions to maintain specialized qualifications and proficiency. These exercises are designed not only to reinforce their skills in safe and efficient convoy and vehicle operations, but also to evaluate their discipline, safety protocols, and operational effectiveness while operating specific vehicle platforms.

To minimize any inconvenience during the exercise dates, stringent measures are being implemented. Members of the public are kindly urged to exercise extra caution when approaching military vehicles. Their understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated in ensuring the smooth execution of these essential training exercises.
