Highway 7 collision near Maberly leads to impaired driving charge, injuries

A collision on Highway 7 near Maberly led to impaired driving charges early Monday morning.

On Monday, June 17, just after 4 a.m., Lanark OPP were called to the scene of the collision, where “an eastbound pick-up truck had crossed the road and struck a rock cut,” police explain in a media release.

The driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries, and testing for impairment was conducted while at the hospital.

As a result of the investigation, Keith Jay, 37, of Ottawa, has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on July 29, 2024. The individual’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days (Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension) and vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
