Heavy tow recovery will cause Highway 401 delays on long weekend

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have announced a lane closure on Highway 401 that will take place overnight between Saturday, Mar. 30 and Sunday, Mar. 31, 2024, to recover a heavy tow truck, which is currently in the ditch near mile marker 548, between the Cannifton Road/Highway 37 exit and the Shannonville Road exit.

According to a release from the OPP, shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 25, 2024, the Lennox and Addington Detachment of the OPP received a report indicating a heavy tow truck that was was pulling a concrete pump truck had left the road and was in the ditch at the above location.

“Police attended the scene and Paramedic Services were already there attending to the heavy tow driver who sustained minor injuries,” the OPP stated.

“The heavy tow had hit the shoulder and ended up in the north ditch. The heavy tow flipped on its side and was still connected to the concrete pump truck.”

According to the OPP, the recovery of the vehicles will occur on Saturday, Mar. 30, 2024, starting at 10 p.m.

“At that time there will be a lane closure of the driving lane to accommodate the recovery so expect minor delays until crews clear the area,” OPP said.
