Heavy police presence in Athens due to sudden death of young man: OPP

Leeds OPP report that a sudden death took place in Athens on the morning of Saturday, March 23.

In a media release, police say a young adult male was found deceased at an address on Main Street Saturday morning in what they are calling a “sudden death incident.”

Police expect officers will remain on scene for the duration of the investigation.

Forensic Identification Services, the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and Leeds County OPP Crime Unit is engaged; though police said the Criminal Investigation Branch was involved, they later corrected this to say that team is not engaged at this time.

“A heavy police presence will remain for several hours to allow for a complete and thorough investigation,” police say. “Please avoid the area.”
