Final suspect apprehended in Tyendinaga home invasion, kidnapping and assault case

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad has apprehended the final suspect connected to a home invasion, kidnapping, and assault case in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

In a media release, police say Ashley Cummings, 36 years old, was arrested on Feb. 28 in Deseronto. She faces multiple charges including assault with a weapon, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, forcible confinement, uttering threats, robbery with violence, theft, break and enter, possession of a weapon, and disguise with intent. Charges have not been proven in court.

Cummings is presently in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for Feb. 29 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. This arrest follows the appearance of five other individuals in court facing similar charges.

The incident occurred on Jan. 28 at approximately 4:30 a.m., at a residence on Atsia Court in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The report indicated that several individuals entered the home, assaulted a male occupant, and forcibly removed him in a vehicle. The victim was allegedly subjected to further assault before being left in another area of the community. Fortunately, the victim sustained no life-threatening injuries.
