Fight leads to assault, drug charges and more: Belleville police

A fight involving a knife in downtown Belleville led to multiple charges for one of the men involved.

Police say that just before 3 p.m. on Jan. 8, officers were called to the area of Front Street and Bridge Street for a fight between two males.

Police spoke to the involved parties and learned that one had allegedly brandished a knife during the altercation. As a result, a 22-year-old male of no fixed address was initially arrested for assault with a weapon.

Then, after a search, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance and stolen property; he was also breaching his probation order, police say.

As a result, the suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, failing to comply with his probation order and possession of stolen property.

He was held for a bail hearing.
