Drug, impaired driving charges laid during traffic stop in Prince Edward County



A report of a suspected impaired driver on Highway 62 in Prince Edward County over the weekend resulted charges for a Montreal resident.

Police were called to Highway 62 just after 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 after a report of a suspected impaired driver. A media release from the OPP explains that the suspect vehicle was located by officers on County Road 1. The car was searched, and Ketamine, amphetamine and GHB were seized.

The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for testing by a drug recognition evaluation officer.

Samuel Houston, 28, of Montreal, has been charged under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 substance – three counts.

Charges have not been proven in court.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 24.

The accused’s licence is suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
